Из некде-шных приложений печать идет нормально, если из кде-шных посылать на печать, то ничего не происходит и в cups в заданиях ничего не отображается.
у меня например давно стоит, сразу после установки 4-ки возникла проблема печати на hp, сейчас постоянно переводится в режим приостановлен и при каждом печатании его приходиться “возбуждать” 
, а вообще hp хорошие принтеры но это Г в линуксе, вот самсунговские принтера, те не успеваешь провод к порту поднести уже печатают, т.ч. везде ставлю их, а hp как заноза в З
Эта проблема как раз под самсунгом. hp раньше был - никаких проблем не замечал. Стал пробовать обновлять по ссылке, на 4 обновлении все споткнулось, правда 4 cups установился, но два принтера (кэнон и самсунг) отказываются что-либо выдавать, хотя показывается, что идет печать.

У самсунга официальные драйвера под линукс , какой принтер у вас?
hp то же поддерживает разработку своих драйверов под линукс, и в отличие от самсунга не убирает старые версии, когда новые становятся глючными. Какая разница какой самсунг - у них универсальный драйвер на все, scx-4100, cups перестал нормально действовать, откатился назад - не работает, где логи emerge посмотреть?
P.S. логи нашел, правда, они не совсем удобные - не по времени сортировка, а какие-то непонятные числа влева. Неужели libpng так повлиял?
Откатился по всем зависимостям назад - принтеры не действуют, вот так вот ликвидировал одну проблему, которая стала из локальной глобальной в локальном масштабе.
Вроде бы вопрос снимается, после вторичного обновления и переустановки драйверов принтеры заработали.
